Why to change/ the purpose of settings in Maya.

Settings such as= 
Multiple Edge Loops: ON
Number of edge loops: 4
Auto Complete: OFF
of the Insert Edge Loop Tool.

These settings chanege if more than 1 edge loops can be set, how many edge loops can be set at a time, and if  it completes itself.
